TVC Olay Angel Aquino 'Athena'
Director Matt Harris and Cinematographer Simon Hau
discussing how to go about the first scene.
Matt briefing Angel.
Took a shot of Angel for make-up comparo.
First scene.
Angel on set.
Angel's make-up under the lights.
Days after the shoot, we flew to Bangkok to do post work on the ad.
Matt was already so at home in 'The Post' that he makes his own coffee.
One of my favorites, grading. Below is a shot inside the 'spirit' room as we were grading.
Amazing how 'Hipstamatic' in iphones can turn mundane matters into interesting
bits of images.

TVC Downy One Rinse 'Friends'
Casting was one of the highlights in the production of this ad. Luckily, we were able to find exactly what we needed. The only thing not going for us then was the weather. We had to stop shooting middle of the day as it just poured like anything.
As you can see the scene is quite big and deep. Every detail we reviewed over and over again. The color combinations for the pail, the arrangement of large and small containers, the extras on the side, the cart that will be moving and the costumes... Making sure nothing was coming out too strong.
The disparity of the number of pails used by non users vis-a-vis Downy one rinse user should come out. Oh and the signature 'pink' has to be noticeable like a breath of fresh air.
I can remember Paolo (director) and I would walk back and forth, back and forth looking at the angles making sure all was well. The heat was intense as it had just rained hard and stopped. And by 1pm, the sun was beating so hard making us feel like we were melting.
The added lights were needed to compensate for the harshness of ambient light. We tried to complete the shoot before the next downpour but we couldn't. Another day was needed.
TVC Downy Antibac Vietnam
Chào buổi sáng. I should never have have forgotten what little Vietnamese I knew. :-)
This is Cẩm Ly for Downy Antibac. She's a famous singer in Vietnam.
Quite a charming lady really. Very easy to work with. Lots of energy and life.
We also brought in Nguyen Toan Tri Minh or Toan as our assistant director
to help bridge the language gap.
By this time, the team was already use to having different languages on the set.
It was just like hearing poetry. I tried my best to remember some of the words
but what came back were the usual greetings - and doesn't take you far. Toan on
the other hand, grew up in LA and spoke english very well.
Personal note: must visit Vietnam again to refresh street language course.
First of all... Thank God it's sunny!
Toan briefing Cam Ly.
Thats Butch Garcia (big guy in the aqua shirt), our production designer,
making sure things are in order.
Cam Ly being her charming self.
You know the shoots going well when you get this smile from your director.
Must I pass the opportunity of a photo opt? nah.
